Luke 4:5-6
The devil took Jesus to a "high place" where they could get a good view. It is not nearly as cool to say from the inner depths of the wilderness "look at all of this", because too much of the view is obstructed. The devil thought, "If I could just get Him to see with His eyes how beautiful and powerful this all appears, He will want it with His flesh." But Jesus knew who He was. He had authority far above and beyond what could be seen and touched. He was the anointed one of Isaiah's prophecy. He could cast out demons and heal the sick and proclaim the good news of the kingdom.
We can get so caught up in the "high places". We stifle our authority and impact by pursuing only that which we can see. We need to remember who we are - worshipers of God, indwelt by His Spirit and commissioned by Jesus! Whether we are in the depths of the wilderness or in the high places, in Christ our view does not have to change.
Lord, help me today to see with your eyes and walk in the authority that you grant me for your purposes.
