A New Song - a New Wonder

Sing to God a brand-new song. He's made a world of wonders! - Ps. 98:1  (TM)

I know people like the old songs. Old songs put us somewhere. For example, Foreigners "Urgent" puts me in my dorm room in Bible college, "Just You and I" puts me at my wedding, and "The Solid Rock" puts me in a chair in the baptist church I grew up in. In worship, people generally want to hear and sing the songs that were meaningful during a period in which God was doing something significant in their lives. Stores play music from specific eras to target the crowd they are marketing to.

But sometimes we need a new song.

The Spirit of God is always at work doing something new. God has made a "world of wonders." But too often in the frantic pace of our lives and in the stifling noise of our schedules, we lose our sense of wonder. We miss the beauty of a budding tree, the simple joy of a quiet morning, or the opportunity that God has placed in front of our "today." So while we rush from here to there, we long for a lost time and a missing wonder - an old song and a lost inspiration.

God has a new song for you today. The world of wonders has not been exhausted. Stop for a few minutes. Look closely at the new things you haven't yet seen and listen to Him speak to you. Let Him give you a brand new song. And chances are, someday you'll be longing for the song He gives you today...
