A Big, Powerful, God

Psalm 99:9  " Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy."

I'm in Leavenworth, Washington this morning. We've been here for the last couple of days as a family. This morning the sky is blue and the sun is blazing. All around this quaint bavarian-themed town are majestic, rugged snow-capped mountain peaks and tree-laden hillsides in endless shades of green. It is take-your-breath-away beautiful.

Yesterday we decided to find one of these hills to climb - and we did. We began the hike through meadows of wildflowers and then traversed through jagged rock outcroppings, following deer trails to the top where we could see panoramic views of the valley below and the mountains that surrounded it. And then this morning I read Psalm 99.

Psalm 99 speaks of the majesty, power and holiness of God. For me there is no greater visual reminder of God's power than the mountains. The mountains remind me of the vastness of God. They tell of His daunting power - that you don't mess with Him or treat Him carelessly. They tell of His creative beauty - that in one spot you can see insurmountable cliffs and in another delicate wildflowers.

He is a friend. He is personal. He loves us. But let us never forget that at the stroke of His hand and the sound of His voice He can make the mountains fall and the earth shake. Let us never cease to stand in awe of Him, to be reminded that we can not grasp His holiness or the perfection of His purposes.

Lord, we exalt You.

funny you should talk of God's majesty ... this morning as we sang Martin Smith's "Majesty" I was thinking about being up in the mountains. Glad you guys are enjoying His beautiful Creation!
